How to Clean Furniture From Smoke Damage
Fires are devastating. They can burn you house and all your possessions until they are charcoal. Even if you are fortunate enough for the fire to not directly burn your furniture, they can still sustain damage from the smoke. Some damage can leave ugly, black stains on your furniture. In this video, you will learn how to do smoke damage cleanup.
Before you get started, you will need the right supplies and tools. You will need safety equipment such as glasses, gloves, and a mask.
You will also need wood cleaner, wood glue, denatured alcohol, fine steel wool, sanding sponges, tack cloth, Gator Microzip, stain, polyurethane, and sandpaper.
Once you have everything, start by washing down the furniture with wood soap. Next, use the fine steel wool to scrub the furniture with the denatures alcohol. This will help remove the smoke. After this, use sandpaper to sand down the furniture ever so slightly. If any wood is damaged, use wood glue to reapply the broken piece. After you are done sanding, use some wipe-on stain. This will take two to three coats of stain. Lastly spray on the polyurethane and you are done!
