The Process Of Creating A Sterling Silver Earing
The process of creating a sterling silver earring is a complicated one. To start, sterling is made up of 92.5 percent silver and 7.5 percent of another alloy, which is usually copper.
This mixture of silver and other alloy is then melted and cooled into a mold, which turns the mixture into a sterling silver bar.
In the next part of the process this sterling silver bar is fed through a rolling press, which flattens out the bar. After it is fed through the press a few times it is heated again to restore some of the flexibility that was lost.
To be made into different types of jewelry, in this case, earrings, the sterling silver is formed into a tube. If the earrings are to be made smaller, the tubes are pulled through a machine with increasingly smaller diameters on the opening. This process is repeated until the tube is the perfect size to make the earrings.
Finally, the process is complete and the sterling silver is ready to be used in any which way you desire. For earrings, the tubes are put through another machine that rounds them out and makes them ready for use.
