Creating Customized Woven Labels and Patches
Patches are for more than just repairing or patching up clothing and other cloth objects. There are many different types of custom embroidered patches, and specialty patches. There are, of course, the patches that are worn by girl scouts and boy scouts. Patches used by the government, such as those worn by law enforcement or the military are also among some of the most well known. The designs on the patches used by the United States military are certified, and protected from being copied, by the Institute of Heraldry.
Embroidery has been around for a long time, and was an important part of the Ottoman culture. Today, a good portion of embroidery is computerized, and a machine does the stitching using embroidery software and patterns that are digitized. Thanks to advanced technology, custom embroidered patches can say just about anything and nearly any design can be recreated on a patch in thread.
Designs created in thread are not limited to patches. Custom clothing labels woven from different colored threads are also available. The threads used to created custom woven labels are pre dyed, so that no ink is needed in the production of the labels. Unlike less durable types of labels, woven labels are made to last the lifetime of the product.
Weaving labels out of dyed thread instead of using the ink is awesome. What a cool idea.
It is pretty cool when you think about it. Designing something using different thread patterns, some of those patches have a lot of detail, too.
